Style Tip: How to Create a Home Office Space
In these uncertain times we will be spending more time at home than usual. At DESIOD - Luxury Interior Design we believe there are a number of ways you can create a home office space that is optimal for working from home for both you and your children. Our interior designers have shared their thoughts on curating a beautiful space and an optimal working environment.
Location
The first thing to consider when designing a home office is its location. Consider your working style and the nature of your work, as well the needs of the people you live with. By establishing in advance how much desktop space and storage you require, if you prefer to be in a quiet space or close to a window, you can pick the right room to work from home.
Making the area tidy and banishing clutter is important to stop distractions and also consider any technology needs by ensuring your computer can be set up near plugs to avoid creating trip hazards.
Lighting is a very important factor and, ideally, you should position the desk close to the window to benefit from as much daylight as possible. By thinking carefully about your choice of window treatment this will help you control the amount of light coming into your home office throughout the day as sunlight can be distracting.
Once settled, it is time to make your home office an inspiring one. Whilst too many items can cause your desk to look messy, adding a few decorative items such as a candle or stationery tray or small plants that inspire you are certainly a good thing to keep motivation going.
All of these principles also apply to children’s bedrooms with a few additional touches. A pin board to brainstorm ideas, pen pots and a mat to use for arts and crafts are easy ways to create a productive and creative environment for your child to continue with their school studies from home.
